Erwin Miyasaka: Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu roof

The architectural style of the Kyoto Kitano Tenmangu shrine is called yatsumune-zukuri, “multi-building construction". The main sanctuary (honden) and the worship hall (haiden) are connected through a stone paved passage (ishi-no-ma) but all the three structures are under a unique roof, as you can see in today’s photo. The beautiful lighting of the building and surrounding trees is installed for the autumn illuminations.
